Engage in a powerful artistic journey conducive to profound self expression that promotes and hones collaborative skills. Building team spirit, trust and confidence are just some of the beneficial outcomes of these blind painting to music experiences.
This process aims to transform merit based activities and remove competitiveness from the field of art and creativity. Our emphasis is on individual and group process as well as creating conditions for self expression and catharsis..
The weekend of blind painting was brilliant!
"Never having done this before, it was weird, intriguing, great fun and certainly opened up my painting technique and I have become a braver painter as a result. Michelle is warm and friendly and made sure we explored new ground and learnt an incredible amount, not only about our own painting styles, but some of our perceptions as well. The weekend took place in Michelle’s lovely house that has incredible views and warm arty vibe. There were only three of us, so it felt quite intimate and safe to explore new concepts. I actually saw music when painting blind, and that was wonderful! If you paint, do this course. Its fun, its weird and it will open you up to new ways of painting. If you don’t paint, do this course, because it will open you up to new ways of perceiving.” — Katie Knight
TEAM SPIRIT AND CREATIVE CONFIDENCE
The participants will work in teams and assist one an other with confidence building challenges. In this environment they are able to express their artistic selves with movement and gestures, while inspired by a selection of instrumental music. This cathartic process evokes a wide range of emotions. It is helpful in many ways that the participants begin their creative journey blindfolded. Not being able to see heightens perception of the other senses and the creators are able to access their individual creative worlds, while still in a group.
“My blindfolded painting experience was an eye opener for me. It showed me how far I was from my creative core and really helped me to let go of my “perfectionist syndrome” and to dig back in to my flow of creativity. To flow with the music and not to think of the next stroke was a relieving feeling. Being blindfolded was the key to hear my inner voice and follow my intuition. Definitely worth it.” — Signy Oskarsdottir
These energetic art experiences begin with short rehearsals where the group acts like painters -air-painting- to a variety of instrumental music. Next with eyes closed they are encouraged to release their inner qualities onto the canvas, this time their gestures are inspired through staccato music. With great emphasis on “taking care” half of the participants blindfold the other half. The ones who can see assist the blindfolded painters with color and brush selection as well as helping them stay on the canvass. Learning about freedom of expression while taking great care is a large part of this workshop. The second part of the painting session continues with their eyes open and painting using their opposite hand.
The Process Summary
Phase 1 Blindfolded Painting blindfolded releases the creator from ambition, merit or competitive performance. It provides an environment to flow into the brush stroke and find your unique expression. This part of the workshop is accompanied by instrumental music.
Phase 2 left handed After removing our blindfolds we will then review the nature of the work completed and it’s discuss qualities. Next using our left hand only we exercise our ambidexterity. This part of the workshop is accompanied by experimental music
